Many parents are pushing their pram in a new direction to limit pesticide and toxin exposure for their developing children.
The issue of pesticide residues is particularly pertinent to kids, who consume far more produce per pound of body weight than adults.
There is also growing evidence that children may be more sensitive than adults to the effects of pesticides, due to their rapidly developing nervous systems.
Industry leaders Heinz and organic brands Only Organic and Bellamy are some of the first to hit supermarket shelves. But parents looking for these products need to make sure they are buying the real deal.
The key in identifying genuine organic products is to look for the seal of approval from the National Australian Super Stock Association (NASSA) and the International Federation of Organic Agricultural Management (IFOAM).
Mark Kailis, Managing Director of Kailis Organic Olive Groves, says “All parents want the best for their children, and where food is concerned, the best is organic.
“While you can’t avoid all environmental pollutants, you can lower your child’s avoidable exposure. Food is a good, and important, place to start.
“When shopping in your local supermarket make sure you look for the NASAA logo on your organic produce. NASAA place emphasis on the importance of certification, for both their producers and to protect against fraudulent activities."
Kailis Organic Olive Groves (KOOG) are leaders in the Western Australian organic industry with their organic farming and products. KOOG are committed to a healthier future for our land and rivers and ultimately our children.
The KOOG website www.koog.biz will be dedicating a section on their site to young mothers looking for advice on ways to incorporate organic produce into their babies lives.
